*Classroom library returns should be made prior to library check-out times for accuracy. Please return
materials by the end of the day prior to your scheduled check-out time.
*Student library records (titles borrowed) are considered confidential.
Check-out
Kindergarten: Students may borrow one book each week after learning about book care and library
procedures. Bilingual students should be encouraged to borrow at least one book in a language that can
be read with them at home. They may borrow two books, then, after learning about book care and library
procedures.
First Grade: Students may borrow one book each week after reviewing book care and library procedures.

Second Grade: Students may borrow two books each week. Bilingual students should be encouraged to
borrow at least one book in a language that can be read with them at home.
Third, Fourth, and Fifth Grades: Students may borrow a total of three items at a time. They may borrow
one play-a-way, one magazine, or one DVD per week. Students who have more than three items
borrowed or any overdue materials may not borrow play-a-ways or DVDs. Students must return items on
time for three weeks in a row in order to borrow play-a-ways or DVDs.
Holds
Third, Fourth, and Fifth Grade: Students may request up to three items for library hold. These items will
be held for one week after the student is notified of availability.
Overdue Materials
Kindergarten and First Grade: Students will be notified verbally and in writing by the LMS when they have
overdue materials. If the student has overdue materials from the current school year, the student will
only be able to use library materials in the LMC until returns are made. If materials become overdue by
more than three weeks, the LMS will contact home. Students who often have overdue materials may be
requested to leave their borrowed materials in their classroom and not take them home.
Second, Third, Fourth, and Fifth Grade: Students will be notified verbally and in writing by the Library
Secretary or the LMS when they have overdue materials. If the student has overdue materials from
the current school year, the student will only be able to use library materials in the LMC until returns
are made. If materials become overdue by more than three weeks, the library secretary will contact the
student’s parents with notice of overdue materials.
Lost or Damaged Materials
• Look really, really, really hard—then look again—to find the borrowed item.
• Tell the librarian or library secretary what you lost or damaged.
• Consider replacing the lost item or donating a comparable replacement.
• Volunteer to help in the library.
• The LMC does not charge overdue fines, but does accept monetary reimbursement for lost or
  damaged materials.
